Cinematography Reel

Here is a montage of some excerpts of my work over the years. Personally, I am not a big fan of evaluating a cinematographer's work in a montage of 2-5 minutes. It is a highly misguided way of evaluating a cinematographer, but could work as a primary evaluation. True cinematography, is that which weaves the scene visually from shot to shot and the story dramatically from scene to scene. In an ideal world, its best to see a film shot by a cinematographer in its entirety and evaluate his/her work. More importantly, he or she will bring with him a lifetime of experiences and point of view towards your project, so take your time in finding someone who is a good fit.

Caffeinated

With a focus on the social and cultural landscape of coffee, Caffeinated gives the coffee consumer unprecedented access to the farmers responsible for growing that perfect bean, and the roasters and baristi responsible for brewing that perfect cup.

Biography

Vishal Solanki was born in Mumbai, India on May 14, 1983. He grew up in the Indian film capital, drawing, painting(besides the usual burden of Indian education) and graduating in the arts and photography followed by higher studies in cinematography and directing in Los Angeles. Although he has received an honors and awards in his academic career, he takes academic education with a pinch of salt, and strongly believes that most of the lessons he has learnt have come from talented people who he worked under or with; his travels, and everyday life that happens on the streets. His first co-directorial debut documentary feature Caffeinated, was premiered at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival with subsequent theatrical and digital distribution. He continues to find passionate directors to collaborate with as a cinematographer, and meaningful subjects to pursue as a director. He splits his time between Los Angeles and the rest of the world.
